About

Bonnie Cullison has devoted nearly five decades to public service—32 years as a public-school educator and 16 years as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates. Throughout her career, she has championed underserved communities and worked to unite diverse perspectives toward shared goals.

From 2003 to 2009, she served as president of the Montgomery County Education Association, representing 11,500 members. She strengthened collaboration with school system leaders, leading to programs that improved student outcomes and emphasized the value of employees. Bonnie brought those same values and the lessons from her education career into her work as an elected official.

Elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010 to represent the residents of District 19 in Montgomery County, she was appointed to the Health and Government Operations Committee, now the Health Committee. In her last term, she served as vice chair and chair of the Insurance and Pharmaceuticals Subcommittee. In that role, she helped shepherd policy related to insurance carrier regulation, prescription drug purchasing processes, and consumer costs. She focused her legislative sponsorship on expanding access to health care, including programs to constrain health care cost increases, policies that broaden health safety nets for all residents, and measures that allow health care practitioners to practice at the top of their scope and standards.

After four terms, Bonnie chose not to seek reelection and plans to spend more time with her wife of 42 years, family, friends, and their two dogs. She remains committed to public service and looks forward to continuing that work in ways that fit this next chapter.
